We come from a military family with several of us still in uniform, including three Annapolis grads, a Marine, a Sailor, an Airman.  Those who came before us include veterans of: the First World War (Rainbow Division); the Second World War (Pearl Harbor on the USS Tennessee) and the beaches of Normandy (US Army Combat Engineers); the Cold War on Navy destroyers during Korea (1950) and Suez and Lebanon (1956-58); in the 1980’s in the Straits of Hormuz, the Adriatic, and Japan.
