      As the fighting, searching, surrendering, and side-switching continues in Afghanistan, one begins to wonder how we ended up here.  It is a long and complicated trail, and perhaps the best synopsis is provided by the military historians at West Point, the men who have been studying the subject of war since 1802....Below are links from the USMA site.
